Cher, 77, says she prefers younger boyfriends because men her age ‘are all dead’ – amid romance with Alexander ‘AE’ Edwards, 38

Cher cheekily quipped that she prefers to have younger boyfriends because all of the men in her own age group have died.

The 77-year-old has a longstanding fondness for younger men, and is currently dating record executive Alexander ‘AE’ Edwards, 38.

Now she has explained that her rationale for dating younger men is that the older ones were all intimidated by her personality.

She would rather date men from later generations, who ‘were raised by women like me’ and as a result were never scared of her.

‘And the reason I got with young men is because men my age or older – well, now they’re all dead,’ she joked on The Jennifer Hudson Show this week. ‘But before they just never, they were always terrified to approach me.’

She noted that she herself is ‘really shy when I’m not working,’ and ‘kinda shy around men,’ lowering the chances of her making the first move.

Cher has a longtime reputation for dating much younger men, such as Rob Camilletti, whom she took up with in 1986 when she was 40 and he was 22.

Rob, who became known as the ‘Bagel Boy’ because he worked in a bagel shop, was Cher’s Oscar date when she won best actress for Moonstruck in 1988.

She and Alexander first became acquainted at Paris Fashion Week in September 2022, and by that November she had confirmed their romance.

When she was trolled on social media because of the age gap, she retorted: ‘LOVE DOESNT KNOW MATH, IT SEES [hearts].’

Shortly afterwards, she appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show and good-naturedly poked fun at herself for dating a man so much younger than she.

‘Well, on paper it’s kind of ridiculous,’ she admitted: ‘But in real life we get along great. He’s fabulous and I don’t give men qualities that they don’t deserve.’

Cher noted: ‘If I hadn’t met younger men in my life, I would have never had a date, because older men just didn’t like me all that much, do you know what I mean?’

The If I Could Turn Back Time singer had ‘a couple boyfriends’ who were ‘hovering around my age’ but she felt that ‘they just didn’t like me for some reason.’

By the mid-1970s their romance had crumbled into a notoriously bitter divorce, which she filed for on grounds of ‘involuntary servitude.’

On Kelly’s show she said: ‘Younger men don’t care if you’re, you know, funny or outrageous and wanna do stupid things and, you know, and you have a strong personality, you know? I mean I’m not giving up my personality for anybody, okay?’
