The Korean public’s attitude towards Park Yoo-chun is still cold after he resumed his activities in Japan.
Park Yoo-chun held a fan meeting and dinner show to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his debut in Japan from February 9th to the 11th. After the fan meeting on the first day, reviews, photos, and videos were posted on various online communities. The singer drew attention as he seemed to have gained weight and looked old, in contrast with his past fresh and handsome image.
As his recent status was revealed, the public’s disappointment with Park Yoo-chun, who had a strong unfavorable image due to previous controversies, grew even more. Park Yoo-chun caused a major social stir when he was sentenced to two years of probation in October 2019 after being handed over to trial on charges of drug administration. Earlier, when allegations of drug administration first surfaced, he claimed his innocence and said, “If I used drug, I would retire from the entertainment industry.” The allegations turned out to be true and he became an irreversibly hated entertainer.
He was confident when he lied to the public, and he also confidently broke his promise of retirement from the entertainment industry. Park continued his attempts to do his activities in Korea, but failed amid the cold public attitude and eventually moved his activities abroad.
To make matters worse, in December last year, he was on the list of high-value and common delinquents released by the National Tax Service. In 2016, he evaded a total of five taxes, including capital gains tax, amounted to 400 million won. In the meantime, the news that he would hold a high-priced fan meeting and dinner show pricing from 200,000 won to 500,000 won in Japan caused outrage, but he hosted the event anyways.
Amid growing negative public opinion in Korea related to the upcoming Japanese event, some people showed regret for Park Yoo-chun. Apart from past controversies, Park Yoo-chun has a versatile ability as a singer and actor. However, it seems difficult to arouse sympathy from the public’s view of him, who did something he should never have done.
Besides, there’s nothing to worry about him as he is living a very happy life during this event in Japan. Before the event, his younger brother, Park Yoo-hwan, revealed, “When I arrived in Japan, I couldn’t stop smiling. Everywhere I go, it is so beautiful and everyone is kind. I regret not studying Japanese. My brother and I are having a great time together,” showing Park’s recent “happy” status and it seems unnecessary to worry about Park.
