On September 11, 2023, the Kapisanan ng Social Media Broadcasters ng Pilipinas (KSMBP) lodged formal complaints against ‘It’s Showtime’ hosts Vice Ganda and Ion Perez.
These complaints include allegations of violating the cybercrime law, alongside other undisclosed charges.
Representing KSMBP, Attorney Mark Tolentino has announced plans to host a press conference on September 13, during which the group intends to provide more comprehensive explanations regarding the grounds for filing charges against Vice and Ion.
The background for these charges traces back to a meeting held last month between KSMBP and Lala Sotto, the chairperson of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).
During this meeting, KSMBP expressed concerns about what they deemed “immoral” content featured on specific television programs. However, it remains uncertain whether the charges stem from the controversial actions of Vice and Ion.
The two entertainers were previously accused of engaging in indecent behavior in the presence of children during an episode of the ‘Isip Bata’ segment. This incident garnered mixed reactions from netizens, with Vice Ganda and Ion Perez receiving both criticism and support on various social media platforms.
At the time of reporting, neither Vice nor Ion has issued official statements regarding the newly filed charges. In addition to these legal issues, ‘t’s Showtime,’ the television program hosted by Vice and Ion, is currently in the process of appealing a 12-day suspension imposed by the MTRCB.
