Singer-actress Suzy honestly opened up about what she was like when she was an idol in her 20s
Ahead of the release of Netflix’s series “Doona!”, Suzy’s cover pictorial and interview for the November issue of “Cosmopolitan” were unveiled on Oct 17th.
Based on the webtoon of the same name, “Doona!” depicts the story of the ordinary college student Lee Won-jun and his meeting with Lee Doona, who retired after leaving behind her glamorous Kpop idol days and becomes his housemate. Suzy expressed her special attachment to the character Doona.
“My experiences and those of Doona were different, but still, I could understand Doona more than anyone. Memories of my idol days came flooding back. I didn’t have the luxury to feel pain and express it like Doona when I was in my early 20s. I used to bury my emotions deep down. However, Doona fully experiences emotions and suffers to her heart’s content. She even has a tough side that speaks meanly on purpose. That’s why we want to hug her and she, at the same time, has a cool, refreshing side. It was exhilarating to portray such a character. I discussed this with the director. I hope people first misunderstand Doona then come to understand her.“
When asked how she would have lived during her college years if she enjoyed campus life, similar to Doona’s post-idol life, she smilingly replied, “I think I would have lived very well. I would have enjoyed it more than anyone else!“
Meanwhile, Suzy revealed the change in her state of mind after being recognized for her acting skills through “Anna”, “Now, I’ve gained confidence in myself. I’ve slowly developed a feeling that I need to believe in myself. Since then, people don’t just see me as a bright and pretty person, and that’s very satisfying.”
So, what kind of person does Suzy want to become? She confessed, “I’d like to age gracefully. Instead of being tied to the past or the future, I try to live in the moment, day by day.”
