Iza Calzado reveals why she turns down teleserye projects

‘Shake, Rattle, and Roll Extreme’ actress Iza Calzado explains why she did not accept any teleserye roles this year after giving birth.

As part of the Regal Films iconic horror franchise Shake, Rattle, and Roll Extreme, actress Iza Calzado said she was excited to make her acting comeback after giving birth early this year.

“Sa episode na Glitch, I play Sigrid Salvador, a single mother with two children and is a fashion designer.

Despite SRR Extreme not making it into the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) lineup this year, Iza said she is still hopeful for their film’s successful run starting November 29 when it opens in cinemas nationwide.

Uunahan na natin bago mag-Pasko and you can spend Christmas day early in the form and shape of Shake, Rattle, & Roll na talaga namang inaabangan. I think kahit anong season, kahit nga summer, kahit ano. Kahit saan mo ilagay ang Shake, Rattle, & Roll, meron at merong manunuod nito dahil as testament to that, napakalakas ng ugong online ng mga tao that they really just want to watch it whatever the playdate is, whenever that may be. So the support is overwhelming and heartwarming so talagang nakaka-excited. We’re extremely grateful that we are here,” she admitted.

Since becoming a first time mom to her baby daughter Deia Amihan who arrived last January, Iza said she had to consider a lot of things before accepting projects again.

So siyempre malaking contention yun. Parang uy, puwede kasi it is a strong franchise. Maria rin, director ko si Richard Somes, the more that it gets appealing di ba? So you’re considering all these things. And then when they said na, ‘Six days ka lang kailangan.’ Kasi actually it was also a way for me to gauge kung kakayanin ko mag-teleserye, kakayanin ko yung mga dumarating na alok na para sa akin,” she explained.

After accepting the project from Regal Films, Iza said it was clearer to her that she was not yet ready to go back to taping regularly again.

“So I did it. I did it for myself as an artist, because I was also missing being on set. Pero not to the point na ma-ko-compromise ko na matagal akong mawawala sa anak ko. So parang it was a good compromise. Tapos nasagot ko rin yung mga katanungan sa isip ko na, ‘Kaya ko bang mag-teleserye at that time?’ And the simple answer is no. So that’s why hindi ako tumanggap ng teleserye.

Siguro ako ng 12 days, I’ll consider it. Pag teleserye kasi, of course it’s a blessing kasi sino bang hindi gustong magkatrabaho? And the number one thing that I think about is my child. So if it’s time away from her, is it worth it?

“Time for me is a very precious resource. Of course merong pera, talent, and  energy. So lahat yan, sa bawat gagawin ko, ang isang malaking learning ko ngayon na nanay na ako is I have to be intentional with what I say yes to and the things that I say no to are also very, very important. So I’m glad I said yes to Shake, Rattle, & Roll Extreme and to be part of this, I feel very proud of our film.
