Eat This Food Before Drinking Alco.hol to "Prevent Getting Drunk"
A doctor has shared her top advice for those who plan to drink alcohol during the festive season—and it involves eating a specific type of food.
Dr. Neena Chandrasekaran has offered some valuable advice for anyone planning to indulge in drinks this holiday season.
If you're hoping to enjoy a drink or two during the New Year celebrations, her tip might be useful, as it could help you avoid a nasty headache the next morning.
While some people try to prevent hangovers by eating starchy foods like bread or drinking milk to coat their stomachs, this 34-year-old expert has a different recommendation.
The Pulmonology and Critical Care specialist advises: "If you're planning to party and drink alcohol, eat cheese before drinking to reduce the risk of a hangover."
She explains: **"Cheese is rich in protein, fat, and complex carbohydrates, which can coat the stomach and slow down alcohol absorption. It also helps the body metabolize alcohol more effectively and protects the liver from damage. Additionally, cheese is packed with vitamin B and calcium—nutrients that are depleted when consuming alcohol.
Calcium, which alcohol can deplete, is essential for proper nerve and muscle function, while B vitamins are crucial for energy and metabolism."**
However, Dr. Neena emphasizes that there is no miracle cure for hangovers—if you drink too much, you may still feel unwell.
She adds: "Remember, avoiding alcohol is always the best option, no matter what tips or tricks you try. But if you plan to drink, consider eating some cheese beforehand."
