If You See These 4 Signs When Buying Beef, I Sincerely Advise You: "Turn Around"!

At the Beginning of the Year, If You See These 4 Signs When Buying Beef, I Sincerely Advise You: "Turn Around"!
According to traditional beliefs, buying beef at the beginning of the year brings good luck. However, when shopping, you need to be cautious to avoid purchasing low-quality beef.

1. Beef That Is Too Dry or Too Moist
Normally, when we buy beef, we often see vendors hanging it on hooks for display. This makes it easier for customers to choose and helps with ventilation, which keeps the beef fresher for longer.

Because of this ventilation, moisture on the beef’s surface evaporates over time, making it drier and forming a thin dry layer. While this doesn’t mean the beef is spoiled, it does indicate that it has lost some of its moisture and weight. However, if the beef is excessively dry, it has lost too many nutrients.

Even after cooking it for a long time, overly dry beef will still taste tough and unappetizing.

On the other hand, we should also avoid buying beef with an overly wet surface, as it may have been injected with water to make it appear fresher.

2. Beef with an Unusual Color
There are many beef stalls in the market, so take your time and compare the colors before making a purchase. Fresh beef is typically bright red or deep red, with white or slightly yellowish fat. It also has a certain level of sheen.

However, if the beef looks too bright or unnaturally dull, avoid buying it. Beef that is excessively bright in color may have been treated with chemicals to enhance its appearance. Meanwhile, dull and lifeless beef may have been sitting out for too long and is no longer fresh, which will negatively affect its natural flavor.

3. Beef That Lacks Elasticity When Pressed
Similar to buying pork, you can check the quality of beef by pressing it with your finger. Don’t hesitate to get your hands a little dirty—just gently press the surface of the beef.

If the dent caused by pressing quickly bounces back, it means the beef is still fresh. However, if the indentation remains and is slow to recover, the quality of the beef is poor. This could mean that the beef is old, has been stored for too long, or has been injected with water. Such beef often has an unpleasant taste and lower nutritional value.

4. Beef with a Strange Odor
When selecting beef, get close and smell it. Fresh beef has a slightly bloody scent, which is normal. However, if the beef has a sour smell, an ammonia-like odor, a rancid scent, or any other strange, pungent smell, do not buy it—no matter how cheap it is.

Such beef is likely contaminated and has already spoiled. If you buy it, you won’t be able to eat it, which means wasting both money and effort.

By keeping these four signs in mind, you can make sure you only buy high-quality beef and avoid unnecessary risks when shopping!
