When traveling by plane on hot days, many passengers tend to choose simple clothes like shorts or short skirts to feel cool and comfortable. However, flight attendants advise passengers not to wear such clothes on airplanes.
According to flight attendants, when wearing short clothes, passengers’ skin may come into direct contact with the seat cushion, and these seats are not always cleaned or disinfected regularly. You can’t know how many people and what has touched the seats.
There are areas that are not deeply cleaned, which could be harboring a lot of bacteria, increasing the risk of spreading infectious diseases and skin diseases. Therefore, if you wear short clothes, you will have more contact with bacteria. It’s best to choose modest and comfortable clothing to reduce the possibility of bacteria entering the body.
You can wear practical and comfortable clothing like a T-shirt and jeans. Avoid wearing skirts, but if the flight is not too long, you can still wear maxi dresses that are beautiful and not too revealing.
Choose loose-fitting clothes made of breathable, sweat-absorbing materials. Sitting for a long time on a plane can make you tired. Therefore, if your clothes are too tight or made of dense, hot materials, it will increase your fatigue.
Some other things to remember when flying:
- Limit leaning on the window because this area is often touched by hands. You will never know how clean the seats are.
- After using the restroom on the plane, people should not press the flush button by hand, instead, use a tissue to avoid harmful bacteria.
- During long flights, passengers are often engrossed in movies or compelling books, forgetting to drink water. But staying hydrated is extremely important to remember.
- For those who find it difficult to sleep because of the surrounding light, preparing an eye mask is advisable. Using an eye mask can prevent surrounding light, especially when sitting near the window, making it easier and more effective for everyone to fall asleep. Additionally, bringing a travel pillow or a U-shaped neck pillow for long flights is recommended. Using a U-shaped pillow helps passengers have a good sleep, avoiding discomfort and moisture around the neck area.
- There are no rules against reclining the seat while eating, but it’s best to be considerate so that the person behind you can comfortably eat. During flights, everyone feels tired, so be courteous not to cause discomfort to others.
- Limit storing carry-on luggage in the overhead bin above someone else’s seat because everyone needs to use that space. If it’s full, you can place it elsewhere, but ask for guidance from the flight attendants.
- While flying, if you want to stretch your legs, it’s best to walk along the aisle for a bit rather than putting your feet up on the seat or wall, or sitting cross-legged, invading the space to lean against or tossing your long hair behind the seat.
- Some people have the habit of taking off their shoes on the plane for their feet to breathe. However, if your feet “smell,” it’s best not to take off your shoes or at least keep your socks on. Due to the small space on the plane, doing so can spread the odor, affecting other passengers.
- When chatting with someone new during the flight, try to control the volume of your conversation and laughter.
- Blood circulation in your body will be slower during the flight. Therefore, if you sit still without moving, you are more likely to get deep vein thrombosis. Apart from the time the plane takes off and lands, try to move around gently to help blood circulation.
- Do not use your phone on the plane because the signal from your phone can interfere with the aircraft’s navigation system, and pilots may not receive information from air traffic controllers.
- We all know to fasten seat belts on the plane when the seat belt sign lights up. Turbulences during the flight can cause injury if the seat belt is not fastened.
