MANILA, Philippines — Around 300 families were left homeless when a fire razed a residential area, destroying at least 200 houses in Bacoor City, Cavite yesterday.

The city disaster risk reduction and management office said the fire started at 5:26 a.m. along Waling-Waling street in Barangay Zapote 1. Firefighters doused the fire, which reached the third alarm, at 7:04 a.m.

Arson investigators from the Bureau of Fire Protection are gathering statements from witnesses and other pieces of evidence to determine the cause of the fire as affected residents seek shelter in an evacuation center.
