If you notice something that is new, changing, persistent, or simply looks very different from the rest of your skin, having it examined is safer than trying to diagnose it yourself.

7. Persistent Thirst and Frequent Urination

Drinking more water after exercise or during hot weather is completely normal.

However, persistent excessive thirst and frequent urination may deserve further evaluation, especially when the symptoms occur together.

Elevated blood glucose is one possible cause, particularly when increased thirst and urination are accompanied by fatigue, blurred vision, increased hunger, or unexplained weight changes.

But there are other possible explanations, including medications, high fluid intake, certain kidney conditions, and hormonal disorders.

Symptoms alone cannot establish the cause.

If you notice a significant and persistent change in how much you drink or how often you urinate, discussing it with a healthcare professional can help determine whether blood or urine testing is appropriate.

8. Persistent or Unexplained Swelling

Swelling can happen for simple reasons.

Sitting for a long time, standing all day, recovering from an injury, or eating a particularly salty meal can sometimes contribute to temporary swelling.

Persistent or unexplained swelling is different.

Swelling of the legs, ankles, hands, face, or abdomen can have various causes, including inflammation, medication effects, circulation problems, and conditions affecting the heart, kidneys, liver, or hormones.

The pattern is particularly important.

Sudden swelling in one leg accompanied by pain, warmth, or redness needs prompt medical evaluation because a blood clot is one possible cause.

Swelling accompanied by sudden breathing difficulty or chest pain is an emergency.

Again, swelling itself does not tell you what is wrong. It is a signal that may need to be interpreted in context.

9. Noticeable Changes in Urination

Urine can change naturally depending on hydration, diet, supplements, and medications.

Darker urine, for example, can occur when you are dehydrated.

But persistent changes should not always be ignored.

Pain or burning during urination, blood in the urine, unusually frequent urination, persistent urgency, or significant changes in urinary habits can sometimes indicate a urinary tract, kidney, prostate, or other health issue.

Visible blood in the urine deserves medical evaluation, even if there is no pain.

Likewise, persistent changes in urine appearance should not be diagnosed based on internet images alone. Proper urine testing can provide information that appearance cannot.

If a urinary change is new and continues, particularly if it is accompanied by fever, back or side pain, vomiting, or significant discomfort, seek medical advice.
