365 Days of a Fake Marriage

A fake marriage. Endless misunderstandings. A cold-hearted CEO and a woman drowning in debt. Neither expected that their contract would turn into real love.

The rain was pouring heavily over New York when Lily Parker stood outside the hospital, holding a stack of unpaid bills.

Her father’s company had gone bankrupt. The debts were enormous, and the creditors were threatening to send him to prison.

Lily worked two jobs, sold her paintings online, and barely slept, but nothing was enough.

That night, a black luxury car stopped in front of her.

A man stepped out.

Ethan Carter.

The youngest CEO of the Carter Group, one of the richest corporations in the country.

He looked at her with calm, unreadable eyes.

Ethan: “Miss Parker, I have a proposal.”

At that moment, Lily did not know that the next decision would change her entire life.

They sat in a private office overlooking the city.

Ethan placed a contract on the table.

A one-year marriage.

No interference in each other’s personal lives.

No romantic expectations.

After 365 days, they would divorce.

In return, Carter Group would pay all of her father’s debts.

Lily stared at the contract.

Lily: “Why me?”

Ethan: “I need a stable marriage to secure my position in the company. You need money. This is a business arrangement.”

Lily’s hands trembled.

She hated the idea.

But she loved her father more than her pride.

Slowly, she signed her name.

The wedding was extravagant, filled with cameras, flowers, and fake smiles.

But behind the closed doors of the mansion, there was only silence.

On their wedding night, Ethan said without looking at her,

Ethan: “You may use my name and my money, but don’t expect me to love you.”

Lily forced a smile.

Lily: “I never asked for love.”

Ethan had been betrayed by the woman he once trusted most. Since then, he believed that people only stayed for power and money.

And in his eyes, Lily was no different.

They lived like strangers.

Ethan returned home late.

Lily painted alone in the studio.

Their conversations lasted only seconds.

One day, Ethan saw Lily transferring a large amount of money at the bank.

He smirked.

Ethan: “So the money is already disappearing?”

Lily looked at him quietly.

Lily: “It’s my private matter.”

That answer only confirmed his suspicion.

She married him for money.

A week later, Ethan saw his younger brother Daniel driving Lily home after an art exhibition.

The moment she entered the mansion, Ethan’s voice turned icy.

Ethan: “Having dinner with my brother now?”

Lily frowned.

Lily: “He was just giving me a ride because it was raining.”

Ethan: “Or are you looking for another Carter to hold on to?”

Her eyes widened in shock.

Lily: “What kind of woman do you think I am?”

Ethan: “The kind who signs a marriage contract for money.”

The words hit harder than any slap.

That night, Lily cried alone for the first time.

Days later, Ethan collapsed from exhaustion and a high fever.

The servants panicked, but Lily stayed beside him all night.

She changed the cold towels, called the doctor, and cooked porridge herself.

When Ethan woke up at dawn, he saw her sleeping in a chair beside his bed.

For a brief moment, something softened in his heart.

But then the housekeeper said,

Housekeeper: “Madam canceled her jewelry auction to take care of you.”

Ethan’s expression hardened again.

He thought she was trying to win his favor.

Sometimes, people do not hate love.

They are simply too afraid to believe it is real.

On Ethan’s birthday, his ex-girlfriend Sophia returned.

Elegant, confident, and dangerous.

She approached Lily with a smile.

Sophia: “You know he never loved you, right? You’re just a temporary wife.”

Lily said nothing.

That evening, she prepared a quiet dinner and brought a portrait she had painted of Ethan.

Before entering his study, she heard his voice.

Ethan: “After one year, the marriage will end.”

The painting slipped from her hands and crashed onto the floor.

Lily turned around and walked away without a word.

A few days later, Lily’s father suffered a heart attack.

Desperate to pay the medical bills, she sold all the expensive jewelry she had received after the wedding.

Ethan found the receipt.

When she returned home, he threw it onto the table.

Ethan: “So this is what you wanted from the beginning.”

Lily stared at him, exhausted and pale.

Lily: “You really think I married you for these things?”

Ethan: “What else could it be?”

Her voice broke.

Lily: “My father was about to go to prison! I had no choice!”

The room fell silent.

For the first time, Ethan saw the pain she had been hiding.

Truth often arrives too late, after the heart has already been wounded.

That night, Ethan ordered a full investigation.

The reports revealed everything.

Lily had transferred almost all the money to repay debts.

She continued selling paintings secretly.

She had never used the unlimited card he gave her.

She had been paying hospital bills alone.

Ethan sat in his dark office, unable to breathe.

He had judged her without ever trying to understand her.

He went to the hospital immediately.

Lily was sleeping on a bench outside the ICU.

Ethan gently placed his coat over her shoulders.

When she woke up, he whispered,

Ethan: “I’m sorry.”

Lily looked at him for a long time.

Lily: “You never trusted me.”

Ethan lowered his head.

Ethan: “I know.”

It was the first time the proud billionaire admitted he was wrong.

After that day, Ethan began to change.

Not with money.

With sincerity.

He ate dinner with her.

He visited her art studio.

He listened when she spoke.

One evening, while watching her paint, he asked softly,

Ethan: “If there had been no debt… would you have married me?”

Lily smiled sadly.

Lily: “I didn’t even know who you were.”

Ethan looked at her for a long moment.

Ethan: “And now?”

She did not answer.

But for the first time, she did not look away.

When the one-year deadline arrived, Ethan placed the divorce papers on the table.

Ethan: “If you want your freedom, I’ll sign.”

Lily held the pen, but her hand would not move.

Lily: “What about you?”

Ethan took a deep breath.

Ethan: “I don’t want a divorce.”

Her eyes trembled.

Ethan: “At first, I thought you loved money. But the poor one was me.”

He continued,

Ethan: “I was poor in trust, poor in kindness, and poor in love. You took care of your father, and you took care of a man who kept hurting you. Somewhere along the way, I fell in love with you.”

Tears rolled down Lily’s cheeks.

Lily: “I hated you.”

Ethan: “I know.”

Lily: “But I loved you too.”

Ethan smiled through wet eyes and tore the divorce papers in half.

One year later, Lily opened her first solo art exhibition.

The most important painting was the portrait of Ethan she had dropped on his birthday.

He had secretly repaired and kept it all this time.

In front of the guests, Ethan took her hand.

Ethan: “This time, there is no contract.”

Lily smiled.

Lily: “This time, it’s a real marriage.”

Outside the gallery, the rain had stopped.

And for the first time, both of them understood that love is not built by money, power, or signatures.

It is built by trust, forgiveness, and the courage to see the truth behind someone’s silence.

He married her to save his company. She married him to save her father. Neither realized they would end up saving each other’s hearts.
