Chapter 2: The First Breakfast Mistake – Sugary Porridge and Refined Carbohydrates
Many people believe that porridge is always a healthy option. While certain types can be nutritious, highly processed rice porridge or sweetened versions may cause rapid increases in blood glucose levels.
Refined carbohydrates are broken down quickly by the body, leading to sudden spikes in blood sugar. For individuals with diabetes, repeated spikes can place extra stress on the body's ability to regulate glucose effectively.
Nutritionists recommend choosing whole grains whenever possible. Oatmeal, steel-cut oats, quinoa, and fiber-rich grains digest more slowly and may help maintain more stable blood sugar levels.
Adding protein and healthy fats can further improve balance. Eggs, nuts, seeds, and Greek yogurt are examples of foods that help increase satiety and reduce sudden hunger later in the day.
The goal is not to eliminate carbohydrates completely but to choose better-quality sources and consume them in appropriate portions.
