5 Highly Nutritious Foods Wrongly Blamed as Harmful to Health

In daily life, there are many delicious and nutritious foods that, due to misleading rumors, have been unfairly labeled as “bad for health.”
As a result, many people who once enjoyed them now avoid them. In reality, some of these foods have been “misjudged” for years but are actually packed with nutritional value.

1. Pork Fat

Many people believe that “eating pork fat causes weight gain and clogged arteries.” Yet, an old saying goes, “a spoon of pork fat is worth more than ten doses of medicine.” Pork fat contains a high amount of vitamin D—double that of olive oil—helping the body absorb calcium more effectively.

It is also rich in monounsaturated fats, which benefit heart health. More importantly, this type of fat is heat-stable, remaining safe even at high cooking temperatures. When eaten in moderation and alternated with vegetable oils, it is both tasty and not harmful to health.

2. Animal Organs

Just hearing the word “organs” makes many worry about “too much cholesterol.” But in fact, they are a natural “nutrition powerhouse.” Pork or chicken liver, for example, is extremely rich in vitamin A, which supports vision and prevents dry eyes—especially beneficial for people who spend long hours on screens.
Furthermore, the iron found in organ meats is heme iron, which is more easily absorbed by the body and helps prevent anemia. Of course, moderation is key; while moderate intake is nourishing, overconsumption can strain metabolism.

3. Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)

Once branded as a “toxic chemical,” MSG’s main component is actually glutamate—an amino acid beneficial to the body. MSG is made through the fermentation of grains, similar to processes used in making wine or soy sauce.
When used in reasonable amounts, it simply enhances the flavor of food and is not harmful as many people mistakenly believe.

4. Egg Yolks

Many people eat only egg whites and discard the yolks out of fear of cholesterol. In truth, yolks are rich in high-quality protein and lecithin, which helps regulate blood lipids and supports brain function. The cholesterol in eggs does not directly equate to high blood cholesterol.
For healthy individuals, eating 1–2 eggs a day is completely beneficial. Throwing away yolks wastes a valuable source of nutrients.

5. Stinky Tofu

Its strong odor often makes people hesitant, with some even doubting its hygiene. But this traditional delicacy is made from fermented soybeans under controlled conditions. During fermentation, stinky tofu develops probiotics that help balance gut microbiota. Its protein also becomes easier to digest, while B vitamins are added. The key is to buy from trusted sources to avoid unsafe products.

In short, these foods that were once “misunderstood” can actually provide many health benefits when eaten properly and in moderation. Diet should be about balance—not extreme exclusion. Sometimes, what we think is harmful may in fact be a natural “medicine” hidden in our everyday meals.
