6 Indoor Spots Where You Should Never Install Security Cameras — They May Cause More Trouble Than Safety

When installing security cameras inside your home, you should avoid placing them in certain spots. Doing so not only fails to protect your privacy but can also lead to a host of other problems.

Security cameras are essential devices that help keep many households safe. However, since cameras operate 24/7, they can also cause inconvenience and privacy issues if not installed in appropriate locations.

Below are the areas in your home where you should avoid installing security cameras:

Những Vị Trí Nào Nên Và Không Nên Lắp Camera Trong Nhà?

1. Private areas

Cameras are designed to record surrounding images, and their main role is to ensure security — not to monitor the private lives of family members. Therefore, you should never install cameras in highly private spaces such as bedrooms, bathrooms, dressing rooms, or any area where privacy is expected.

Although cameras require an account and password to access footage, hackers can still break into home surveillance systems and steal information. If cameras are placed in private areas, sensitive images may be leaked, seriously affecting personal lives.
Instead of installing cameras in such spots, you can use motion-sensing lights or similar devices to detect intrusions without compromising privacy.

2. Hard-to-find or hidden locations

Some people believe that hiding cameras in concealed spots offers better monitoring because burglars might use those hidden routes to break in. In reality, however, entrances remain the most common points of access for thieves.

So, instead of placing cameras in hidden corners, install them near main doors and windows, where they can capture anyone entering or leaving the house. You can also add more cameras to cover blind spots and ensure complete coverage.

3. Positions that are too high

Mounting cameras high up may seem like a good way to widen the field of view. However, this can compromise image quality — the higher the camera, the less detail it can capture, especially when identifying intruders.

Khi lắp camera giám sát, bạn cũng cần tính toán vị trí cho phù hợp, vừa để có tầm quan sát tốt, vừa đảm bảo sự riêng tư cho gia đình.

Instead, install cameras at slightly above door height for a clearer image. You can also choose cameras with 180° or 360° viewing angles to achieve optimal coverage.

4. Behind windows

Many people think placing a camera behind a window protects it from rain and wind. However, this position often reduces image clarity and limits the viewing angle due to window reflections and obstructions.

The better option is to use weatherproof outdoor cameras, which can monitor the house effectively without being affected by weather conditions or window glare.

5. Facing your neighbor’s property

Everyone has the right to personal privacy and family confidentiality. Article 21 of the 2013 Constitution clearly states that personal and family privacy is inviolable and protected by law.

Furthermore, under Article 38 of the 2015 Civil Code, collecting, storing, using, or disclosing private or family-related information without consent violates privacy rights.

Therefore, installing cameras aimed at your neighbor’s property without their permission is considered an invasion of personal and family privacy and can be deemed a legal violation.
