6 Types of People Who Should Avoid Eating Too Many Eggs
Eggs are a popular and nutritious food, packed with protein, vitamins, and minerals. They are easy to prepare and can be part of a healthy diet for most people. However, while eggs offer many benefits, eating too many may not be suitable for everyone. For certain individuals, excessive egg consumption could worsen health conditions or increase health risks.
Below are six types of people who should limit their egg intake or seek medical advice before eating them regularly:
1. People with High Cholesterol
Egg yolks are rich in dietary cholesterol, with one yolk containing about 186 mg. For most healthy people, this doesn’t cause a major problem. However, for individuals with hypercholesterolemia or a history of heart disease, consuming too many eggs can contribute to higher LDL (“bad”) cholesterol levels, potentially increasing the risk of cardiovascular problems.
2. Those with Heart Disease or at High Risk
People with a family history of heart disease or other risk factors such as obesity, diabetes, or high blood pressure should be cautious. While moderate egg consumption may be safe, daily or excessive intake could raise heart health concerns, especially if eggs are cooked with butter, oil, or processed meats like bacon.
3. Diabetics
Some studies suggest that people with type 2 diabetes who consume large amounts of eggs may have a higher risk of developing heart complications. This doesn’t mean diabetics must completely avoid eggs, but moderation is key — and pairing them with vegetables and whole grains is a healthier choice.
4. People with Liver or Gallbladder Problems
Eggs are relatively high in fat, which can stimulate the gallbladder to release bile. For those with gallstones, gallbladder disease, or certain liver conditions, this could trigger discomfort, bloating, or even painful gallbladder attacks.
5. Those Allergic to Eggs
Egg allergy is more common in children, but adults can develop it too. Symptoms can range from mild skin rashes to severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis). People with confirmed egg allergies should avoid eggs entirely and check food labels for hidden egg ingredients.
6. People Struggling with Acne or Skin Inflammation
Although eggs are not the main cause of acne, some individuals find that eating them frequently — especially fried or processed egg dishes — worsens skin inflammation. For those prone to breakouts, reducing egg consumption might help improve skin condition.
