Details of the Incident:
Security footage captured the terrifying moment when the building suddenly tilted to one side and instantly turned into rubble. Onlookers, initially curious about the demolition of a four-story building, screamed as the structure collapsed. The haunting scene and live footage have stirred public concern about construction safety.
On October 22, a severe construction safety accident occurred in Karnataka, India, as a building under construction collapsed unexpectedly in Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka and often referred to as "India’s Silicon Valley." The incident injured and buried multiple workers in the debris, drawing widespread attention to the issue of illegal construction.
The accident took place around 3:40 p.m. on October 22. Cameras near the building captured the horrifying moment when the white building suddenly leaned toward the road and collapsed into rubble within seconds.
According to reports, the building's beams and columns were extremely weak, with little to no steel reinforcement. At the time of the collapse, 21 workers were on-site, 13 of whom were successfully rescued. Unfortunately, at least 8 were confirmed dead, and several others sustained injuries. Rescue operations are ongoing, and the exact casualty count may increase.
Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, visited the accident site and confirmed that the building's construction was illegal and unauthorized. He highlighted that authorities had issued three suspension orders, but the construction team continued their work, ultimately resulting in the tragedy. Shivakumar strongly condemned this and announced that legal actions would be taken against the building owner, contractor, and those responsible. He also ordered that all illegal construction projects in Bangalore be halted immediately.
Following the accident, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched search and rescue efforts for survivors. The collapse may also be linked to heavy rainfall over the previous three days, as recent rains in Bangalore reached their highest levels in 27 years, possibly further weakening the already unstable structure.
Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar has called for stricter monitoring of illegal construction, calling the incident a "significant lesson" for authorities. He emphasized that the law will be rigorously enforced in the future to prevent similar accidents from occurring again.
