What Is the Little Button on Your Seat Belt Actually For?

3. Why Does the Latch Plate Need a Stop?

8. Why You Should Always Wear the Belt Correctly
The little button may be interesting, but the much more important part is making sure the seat belt is positioned correctly.
The lap portion should sit low across the hips and pelvis, rather than high across the abdomen.
The shoulder portion should generally cross the center of the chest and shoulder, rather than sitting behind your back or under your arm.
The belt should be reasonably snug, with no unnecessary twists.
Never place the shoulder belt behind your back just because it feels more comfortable.
