Chapter 2: Common Reasons Behind Easy Bruising
A variety of everyday factors can contribute to unexplained bruising.
Nutritional deficiencies are among the most common causes. Vitamins such as vitamin C and vitamin K play important roles in maintaining healthy blood vessels and proper clotting function. Low levels may increase the tendency to bruise.
Certain medications can also contribute. Blood thinners, aspirin, corticosteroids, and some anti-inflammatory drugs may affect how blood clots and increase the appearance of bruises.
Physical activity may play a role as well. Intense exercise can occasionally cause small amounts of muscle and blood vessel damage, leading to bruising even when no obvious injury occurred.
Some people have naturally fragile blood vessels due to genetic factors. As a result, they may bruise more easily than others throughout their lives.
