Trouble with Orientation and Navigation
People experiencing early dementia may become confused about dates, seasons, or the passage of time. They may forget where they are or have difficulty retracing familiar routes. Getting lost in places they have visited many times before can be a particularly concerning sign.
Spatial awareness may also be affected. Some individuals experience trouble judging distances, recognizing objects, or interpreting visual information correctly.
Mood and Personality Changes
Behavioral and emotional changes sometimes appear before significant memory loss becomes obvious. A normally outgoing person may become withdrawn, while someone who was once confident may appear anxious or uncertain.
Mood swings, irritability, depression, and reduced interest in hobbies or social activities can all occur. These changes are often gradual, making them easy to attribute to stress, aging, or other life circumstances.
