Using Baking Soda
To address the issue of a damp mattress, you can use baking soda. This ingredient is a white, odorless, non-toxic powder that has the ability to absorb moisture and eliminate odors effectively.
For foam mattresses, you can remove the outer cover and sprinkle a layer of baking soda over the surface. Let it sit for a few minutes so that the baking soda can absorb moisture and eliminate odors. Then, use a vacuum cleaner to suck up the baking soda from the surface of the mattress. To increase cleaning efficiency, air the mattress in a dry, well-ventilated place, preferably in a spot with gentle sunlight.
You can also mix baking soda with water and spray it onto the mattress surface. Then, air the mattress in a dry, well-ventilated area to let the water evaporate. After that, wipe the mattress with a clean cloth.
For spring mattresses, you can remove the mattress cover from the spring layers. Mix baking soda with water, then spray it on the dirty areas of the mattress. Wait for about 25-30 minutes for the mixture to soak in, then use a hairdryer to dry the mattress.
If your family uses a waterproof mattress protector before placing the bed sheet, cleaning is quite simple. You just need to remove the bed sheet and use a vacuum cleaner to suck up any dirt on the mattress surface. Focus on vacuuming the areas where you usually lie and the small crevices, as these tend to accumulate the most dust.
Using a Dusting Stick
This is a simple mattress cleaning method that does not require complex tools. Just take a stick that fits comfortably in your hand. Stand the mattress upright and use the stick to gently tap it from top to bottom, allowing the dust to fly out (during the cleaning process, it is recommended to wear a mask to avoid inhaling dust).
If you have a vacuum cleaner, you can use it to suck up any remaining debris. If not, you can wipe the mattress with a clean cloth.
Cleaning Stains on the Mattress
- Using White Vinegar
If the mattress has stains, you can use white vinegar to clean it. Spray a little white vinegar on the stain and let it sit for about an hour. After that, use a damp cloth to blot it clean. If the mattress has yellow stains, you can use a toothbrush to gently scrub the area to remove the stain. Then, air the mattress in a dry, well-ventilated place to dry, or use a hairdryer to speed up the drying process.
- Using Hydrogen Peroxide
For dried blood stains on the mattress, you can spray hydrogen peroxide on the stained area. Once it starts bubbling, use a damp cloth to wipe the area multiple times until it is clean. Then, use a hairdryer to dry the area.
- Using Alcohol
You can use alcohol to remove stains caused by beverages like cola or fruit juice. To prevent the alcohol from spreading over a large area of the mattress, dip a cloth in alcohol and wipe the stains until the mattress is clean.
