Father Works 27 Years Without a Day Off to Support His Children’s Success
Mr. Abu Bakar, 70, worked as a janitor in Malaysia for 27 consecutive years without taking a single day off, helping his children become a judge, a doctor, and an engineer.
Abu Bakar left his rural village in Bangladesh 31 years ago to find work in Malaysia to support his family. For the past 27 years, he worked as a janitor at a shopping mall in Klang city without missing a single day of work.
Each day, Bakar would wake up, wash, have breakfast, go to work, return home, call his family, and rest to prepare for the next day. He sent most of his income back to Bangladesh to cover his children’s school fees and living expenses.
"When I left, my fifth son was only six months old. I haven’t returned home since. I miss my family and children deeply, but their future is more important," Bakar shared in September when his cleaning team won the award for "cleanest shopping mall restroom" given by the city council.
Thanks to the money their father sent every month, Bakar’s children were able to receive a proper education and achieve success. His daughter became a judge, and his two sons are now a doctor and an engineer. Malaysian media reported on October 23 that Bakar, now 70, has returned to Bangladesh to reunite with his family.

His story gained attention on social media. "Amazing! His faith and love for his family kept him going all these years," one user commented.
"Never underestimate the value of labor. People like Bakar are building a future for their family with their hands and deserve respect," another person wrote.
However, some criticized his children. "If I were a judge, doctor, or engineer, I would have brought my father back to rest long ago," one person remarked.
Bakar’s exact salary at the Klang shopping mall was not disclosed. The average salary for janitors in Malaysia is around $400 per month, while the global income statistics site Numbeo estimates that a family of four in Bangladesh needs about $1,200 per month to cover living expenses, excluding rent.
