Épisode Main dans la main S03E07 - Bridgerton Saison 3After his father’s sudden death in the middle of winter, Nathaniel Blackwood became the head of the Blackwood family at only twenty-nine. He inherited a noble title, vast estates, and a fortune that commanded the respect of all London society. Yet with it came countless responsibilities he had never truly desired.

From the day he became duke, Nathaniel’s life was consumed by meetings with lawyers, investments, diplomatic gatherings, and the constant scrutiny of aristocrats waiting to see whether the young heir was strong enough to preserve the Blackwood legacy.

The person who pressured him most was his mother, Duchess Eleanor Blackwood.

She believed that no man, no matter how powerful, could maintain his position without a perfect marriage.

And the woman she chose for him was Lady Sophia Hartwell—beautiful, gentle, and widely admired as the rose of London’s social season.

Nathaniel did not object.

But neither did he look forward to it.

In the Blackwood family, love had never mattered as much as reputation.

The first time he arrived at Hartwell Manor, Nathaniel entered the grand hall wearing the same cold composure that had become his armor.

Sophia appeared in a pale blue silk gown, her golden hair adorned with tiny pearls. She curtsied with flawless grace, and his mother’s satisfied smile told him everything.

But as his gaze moved across the room, he noticed someone else.

A woman standing quietly near the window, bathed in the fading light of the afternoon.

Lady Elena Hartwell.

Sophia’s older sister.

She wore a simple dark blue dress, far less extravagant than her sister’s, and she made no effort to attract attention.

Yet the cool gray eyes and the quiet pride in her expression made Nathaniel pause for a heartbeat longer than he intended.

When Sophia left the room with the duchess to discuss the upcoming ball, Elena stepped closer.

Her voice was calm.

Elena: “You do not have to pretend to want this marriage.”

Nathaniel raised an eyebrow, surprised by her bluntness.

Nathaniel: “And you believe you understand me?”

Elena met his gaze steadily.

Elena: “I do not understand you. I only know that my sister deserves to be truly loved.”

For a moment, Nathaniel said nothing.

It had been years since anyone had spoken to him with such honesty.

Over the following weeks, meetings between Nathaniel and Sophia were arranged with perfect aristocratic care.

They walked through Hyde Park.

Shared afternoon tea beneath rose-covered terraces.

Danced at private musical evenings.

Read poetry in the Hartwell library.

Sophia was always gentle, polite, and perfectly suited to the role expected of her.

But Elena was always there somewhere in the background, watching over her sister like a silent guardian.

And Nathaniel slowly realized that what he anticipated most was not Sophia’s smile, but his endless arguments with Elena.

They disagreed about everything.

Elena believed marriage should never be a transaction of power.

Nathaniel insisted that people of their rank could not afford to live by emotion.

Elena spoke of freedom.

Nathaniel spoke of duty.

Yet the more they argued, the more he wanted to hear her speak.

One afternoon, while walking beside the lake behind Hartwell Manor, Elena slipped on the wet grass.

Nathaniel caught her around the waist before she could fall.

They froze.

Close enough for him to feel the warmth of her breath despite the cold air.

Elena looked up at him.

For a moment, the world seemed to fall silent.

Nathaniel held her gaze far too long before whispering,

Nathaniel: “Doing the right thing has never felt this difficult.”

Elena stepped back immediately, a flicker of panic crossing her face.

Elena: “You are about to propose to my sister.”

Her words shattered the moment.

And both of them understood that their feelings had already crossed a line that should never have been crossed.

The next evening, in the Blackwood study, Duchess Eleanor placed the family engagement ring on the desk.

The candlelight glimmered across the cold diamond.

Eleanor: “Tomorrow you will propose to Lady Sophia.”

Nathaniel picked up the velvet box.

But the face that filled his mind was not Sophia’s.

It was Elena standing by the lake, her dark hair touched by the wind and her gray eyes filled with conflict.

For the first time in his life, he began to question the path that had been chosen for him since birth.

¿Quién ha interrumpido la boda de Adriana en 'Valle Salvaje?

On the night of the grand ball at Hartwell Manor, all of London waited for the duke’s proposal.

Music echoed through the ballroom.

Silk gowns turned beneath crystal chandeliers.

Nathaniel walked toward Sophia with the velvet box in his hand.

His mother smiled with triumph.

Sophia blushed with hopeful anticipation.

But when he saw Elena standing behind her sister, trying to hide the pain in her eyes, he suddenly could not continue.

The ballroom fell silent.

Nathaniel slowly closed the box.

Nathaniel: “Lady Sophia, you deserve a man who can love you with his whole heart.”

Sophia stared at him in shock.

He continued, his voice low but unwavering.

Nathaniel: “And that man is not me.”

Whispers spread through the room.

Duchess Eleanor’s face went pale with anger.

Sophia looked at him for a long moment before asking softly,

Sophia: “Is it my sister?”

Nathaniel did not answer.

But his silence said everything.

Elena left the ballroom just as the first rain of the season began to fall.

She hurried through the dark garden, rainwater mingling with the tears she fought to hide.

As she reached the carriage, a hand caught hers.

Nathaniel.

Elena: “You have just broken my sister’s heart in front of all of London.”

Nathaniel: “Because I could not continue living a lie.”

She turned away.

Elena: “London will turn against us.”

Nathaniel stepped closer, his voice rough with emotion.

Nathaniel: “I have lived my entire life for duty. For the first time, I want to live for my heart.”

He looked into her eyes.

Nathaniel: “I do not want a perfect marriage. I want the woman who unsettles me, who forces me to change, and whom I miss the moment she leaves the room.”

Tears finally slipped down Elena’s cheeks.

Nathaniel gently took her hand.

Nathaniel: “If I must choose between all of London and you…”

He rested his forehead softly against hers.

Nathaniel: “For the first time in my life, I will not choose London.”

This time, Elena did not step away.

Beneath the cold rain of a London night, two people who had been bound by duty finally chose love—not the perfect love society demanded, but a love that was painful, honest, and brave enough to stand against the world waiting behind them.
