What Exactly Is an Earwig?

Earwigs are common insects found throughout many parts of the world. They are typically dark brown, flattened, and equipped with forceps-like pincers known as cerci.

Despite their intimidating appearance, earwigs are generally harmless to humans. Most species grow between 1 and 2.5 centimeters long and prefer dark, damp environments such as:
