Can you distinguish between male and female watermelons?
Watermelon is an essential fruit for summer. Just imagine, after coming back from school or work on a hot afternoon, there's nothing better than biting into a sweet, fragrant, cold, and juicy watermelon slice!
Watermelons are unique among plants in that they are sexually differentiated by their fruit, meaning there are male watermelons and female watermelons. Female watermelons tend to be larger, sweeter, and contain fewer seeds.
According to some experts, you can distinguish between male and female watermelons by looking at the bottom of the fruit, opposite the stem.
In male watermelons, this area will have a small circle about the size of a coin. In female watermelons, the circle at the bottom will be noticeably larger. This is a characteristic that helps people select sweeter watermelons with fewer seeds.
