I just polished my wheels to make them perfectly smooth—I believe it’ll make me go faster. It’s all science!

When in motion, friction allows the wheel’s rotational force to push against the road, keeping the vehicle moving forward. Rubber tires need treads and grooves to enhance grip on surfaces, creating just enough friction for continuous movement rather than just spinning and sliding due to inertia.

Without treads and grooves, there wouldn’t be enough friction for the wheels to propel the vehicle forward. Sideways slipping often occurs at high speeds due to centrifugal force acting on the wheel’s axis. This loss of traction can destabilize the vehicle, leading to falls or accidents.

Tire treads are usually cut deep along the length of the wheel to ensure a firm grip on the road and prevent sideways slipping. However, over time, these treads wear down, reducing traction. When the grooves become too shallow, replacing the tires is essential for safety.

Worn-out tires are extremely dangerous!
