Band-aids are usually used when we get a minor wound, helping to stop the bleeding and speed up healing. But did you know that besides treating small injuries, these tiny bandages can be highly beneficial when combined with your air conditioner?

In this hot summer, air conditioning is undoubtedly a “lifesaver” for the family. When we cleverly stick band-aids on the air conditioner in this way, it can bring unexpected benefits. What’s the reason behind it?

A Handy Tip for Using Band-Aids with Your Air Conditioner

The method is quite simple. First, we prepare two band-aids. Peel off the adhesive backing of the band-aid and place it flat on a table.

In the center of the band-aid, there’s a thin cotton pad. Take some essential oil or menthol oil from home and add a few drops to the cotton pad. When adding the drops, try not to get them on the adhesive area, as this can reduce the stickiness of the band-aid.

After soaking the cotton pad with the essential oil, stick these two band-aids on either side of the air conditioner’s vents, and you’re done.

Many people might be curious about the benefits of this. In fact, menthol or peppermint oil often provides a refreshing and relaxing feeling for the mind. When placed in front of the air conditioning vent, the cool air will disperse this refreshing scent throughout the room, making the atmosphere feel cooler. Additionally, the scent of menthol or peppermint also helps repel mosquitoes, preventing them from disturbing your rest.

Apart from sticking them on the air conditioner, you can also stick band-aids containing menthol oil on window screens at home. The scent of the oil will help prevent mosquitoes from entering.

You can also place band-aids with menthol oil on the doorway. Every time you open the door, a few mosquitoes may fly in from the hallway. By sticking a menthol oil-infused band-aid on the door, each time you open it, the scent will spread around, making mosquitoes hesitant to come near or enter.

Other Tips for Spending Long Hours in Air-Conditioned Rooms

1.   Set a Suitable Room Temperature
When using an air conditioner, setting a suitable temperature is very important. This not only helps protect your health but also reduces energy costs. The ideal temperature for efficient air conditioner operation is between 23–27 degrees Celsius. Avoid setting the temperature too low to cool the room quickly, as this forces the machine to operate at full capacity, reducing its lifespan.

Before going to bed, you should set the temperature to 25–29 degrees Celsius about 1–2 hours in advance. This helps save energy and prevents chills, especially for the elderly and young children.

2.   Cool Down Before Entering the Air-Conditioned Room
If you’ve just come back from the sun and are sweaty, don’t go into an air-conditioned room right away. Take a moment to cool off before entering. After about an hour of working in an air-conditioned room, step outside to change the atmosphere. Before going outside, do light exercises to help your body adjust to the environment gradually.

3.   Stay Hydrated and Maintain Room Humidity
Drink plenty of warm water and place a bowl of water in the room to maintain humidity. Replenish minerals to avoid dehydration and dry skin. Use moisturizing products to prevent skin issues.

4.   Avoid Direct Cold Air
Avoid letting cold air from the air conditioner blow directly onto you, especially your head and neck. Keep warm, and protect areas like your neck and feet.

5.   Clean the Air Conditioner Regularly
Clean the air-conditioned room regularly to prevent microorganisms from growing. Avoid smoking in an air-conditioned room. Keep some warming foods or drinks like ginger candy, ginger tea, or preserved fruits to prevent coldness.

6.   Engage in Light Exercise Regularly
During breaks, perform simple actions such as warming your ears, rubbing your hands together, warming your neck, rubbing your hands and feet together, and breathing deeply in a relaxed position.
