Japan announces 5 foods to eat daily: Eggs only rank 5th, while the true "king of nutrition" is this dish

In recent years, Japan has gained worldwide attention not only for its longevity rates but also for its balanced and health-conscious diet. Recently, Japanese nutrition experts revealed a list of the top five foods people should eat every day to maintain good health, prevent disease, and improve longevity. Surprisingly, while eggs are often celebrated as a “superfood,” they only ranked fifth on the list. The number one spot went to a different dish that truly deserves the title “King of Nutrition.”
1. Natto – The Ultimate Superfood

Taking the crown is natto, a traditional Japanese dish made from fermented soybeans. Despite its strong smell and sticky texture, natto is widely consumed in Japan for breakfast. It is packed with protein, vitamin K2, probiotics, and fiber, all of which support bone health, cardiovascular function, and gut health. Studies have shown that regular consumption of natto may help reduce the risk of blood clots and even contribute to longevity.
2. Fish – Rich in Omega-3s
Coming in second is fish, particularly fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, and sardines. These are excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which play a crucial role in heart and brain health. The Japanese diet’s high fish intake is often linked to their lower rates of cardiovascular disease compared to many Western countries.
3. Vegetables – Colorful and Fiber-Rich
At number three are vegetables, which form the backbone of the Japanese diet. Dark green leafy vegetables, seaweed, and root vegetables provide vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants essential for preventing chronic diseases and strengthening the immune system.
4. Rice – A Staple of Energy

In fourth place is rice, a staple food in Japan for centuries. Unlike heavily processed carbs, Japanese rice is often consumed in small, balanced portions and paired with vegetables, fish, or soup. It is a clean energy source and helps maintain a balanced diet when eaten in moderation.
5. Eggs – A Nutritious but Surprising Fifth Place
Finally, eggs take the fifth spot. Rich in high-quality protein, vitamins A, D, B12, and choline, eggs are indeed a nutritious choice. However, nutritionists emphasize variety in the daily diet, which explains why eggs, despite their benefits, are not at the very top.
