Gas stoves are now commonly installed in many household kitchens because of their convenience. Most often, gas stoves have two burners, and they are used together to speed up cooking.

However, there's a saying: 'You shouldn't cook on the left burner of the gas stove.' Do you know why?

Why Shouldn't You Cook on the Left Burner of a Gas Stove?

First, it's important to clarify that both sides of a gas stove can be used for cooking. However, when comparing the left and right burners, the right burner is often more suitable for cooking. Here are the two main reasons:

1. Preventing Burns
Many people are accustomed to using their right hand to handle utensils and add seasoning while cooking.

If you’re cooking on the left burner and the right burner is also in use, you’ll need to reach across the right burner to grab seasoning, increasing the risk of burns.

If seasonings are placed on the left side, you’ll have to turn and reach for them, which can be inconvenient and challenging, especially for those not adept with their left hand. This can also lead to spills and accidents.

2. Difference in Heat Power
Most modern gas stoves are designed with different heat levels for each burner. Typically, the right burner has a stronger flame, making it better suited for stir-frying or frying dishes. Meanwhile, the left burner, with its lower flame, is more suitable for simmering or boiling.

However, there are gas stoves where both burners have the same flame intensity. If you’re considering such a stove, you can check the label on the gas stove. The thermal power of each burner is usually indicated there. If the heat output is the same for both sides, then the stove offers equal flame intensity for the left and right burners.
