Ginger is an essential spice in every household kitchen. In addition to cooking, you can use ginger to make tea, jam, and candies, which help warm the body and relieve colds.

Many housewives face the problem of ginger spoiling quickly or sprouting and shriveling after a few days.

To keep ginger fresh for a longer time, here are some tips.

Store ginger in the rice container

If you've bought a lot of ginger and haven't used it yet, you can bury it in the rice container.

Note, before placing ginger in the rice container, use a cloth to wipe off any dirt from the ginger's skin. Do not wash the ginger with water, as this will cause it to spoil quickly. Afterward, simply place the ginger into the rice container. A dry rice container will help preserve the ginger for a longer time, preventing it from rotting or sprouting.

Preserving ginger with salt

Wash the ginger to remove all the dirt from the outside.

Prepare a small bowl of water and add salt, then stir to dissolve.

Soak the ginger in the saltwater for about 10 minutes.

Afterward, remove the ginger and let it dry in a well-ventilated area. Make sure the ginger is completely dry before storing it.

Next, use plastic wrap to wrap each piece of ginger. Press and squeeze out the air inside the wrap, ensuring the wrap is tightly sealed around the ginger.

Salt has antibacterial properties, helping to prevent bacteria growth that could spoil the ginger. The plastic wrap will keep the ginger separated from the outside air. This method allows the ginger to stay fresh for a long time.

For leftover ginger pieces, you can rub a bit of salt on the cut surface. Then, store the ginger in a dry, well-ventilated place. Doing this will prevent the cut ginger from spoiling.

Preserving ginger with white vinegar

First, clean off the dirt from the ginger and allow it to dry in a cool, dry place.

Prepare a jar or container with a lid. Place the cleaned and dried ginger into the container. Pour enough vinegar to completely submerge the ginger. You can use white vinegar, balsamic vinegar, or any type of vinegar you prefer. Finally, close the jar tightly and store it in a cool, dry place.

With this method, ginger will stay fresh for a long time without spoiling. You can use the vinegar-soaked ginger directly or as a seasoning for dishes.
