Mix White Sugar with Laundry Detergent Around the House
Mix White Sugar with Laundry Detergent Around the House – The “Golden” Effect Surprised Me!
White sugar is an essential kitchen ingredient, while laundry detergent is a household must-have. Who would have thought that combining the two could bring such powerful results?
One is a seasoning, the other is a cleaning agent — they seem unrelated, yet when mixed together, they can create a magical effect, solving multiple household problems that many people can benefit from.
Below are the amazing uses of the white sugar + laundry detergent solution:
1. Killing Cockroaches
Cockroaches aren’t direct disease carriers, but they spread bacteria and parasites responsible for illnesses such as diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, leprosy, plague, typhoid, and more. They can also carry intestinal worm eggs and trigger allergic reactions like itching, dermatitis, eyelid inflammation, and respiratory issues.
During hot weather, cockroaches multiply rapidly, especially in humid climates. Known as “immortal insects,” they reproduce extremely fast and are hard to eradicate. Sometimes, the more you kill, the more seem to appear.
To deal with them, you can use the sugar + detergent solution. Simply place it in areas where cockroaches usually appear — cupboards, closets, bathroom corners, or dark, damp places. The sugar attracts them, and once they drink it, the detergent blocks their breathing pores (on their abdomen), causing them to suffocate naturally.
2. Killing Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes in summer are a real nuisance and spread serious diseases such as dengue fever. Using mosquito repellents provides only temporary relief and may harm the environment, while mosquito coils merely stun mosquitoes instead of killing them.
Here, the sugar + detergent solution comes in handy. Since mosquitoes are only mildly attracted to sugar, you can boost its effectiveness by adding a little beer or honey. Once lured, the alkaline components in detergent dehydrate and corrode their digestive system, killing them.
3. Deodorizing Drains
Laundry detergent is alkaline, and when mixed with sugar, it can help remove foul odors.
Over time, grease and leftover food build up inside drainage pipes, causing unpleasant smells. Pouring the sugar + detergent solution down the drain not only deodorizes but also helps dissolve grease. Plus, laundry detergent has a fresh scent that leaves behind a clean fragrance.
4. Cleaning Yellowed Towels
Towels often turn yellow and grimy after prolonged use, and regular detergent alone isn’t always enough to restore them.
At this point, the sugar + detergent solution transforms into a strong cleaning agent. Soak the towel in the mixture, scrub gently, and it will remove grease and restore softness.
How to Make the Sugar + Detergent Solution
-
Prepare a clean container.
-
Add equal parts white sugar and laundry detergent (ratio 1:1).
-
Add an appropriate amount of water and stir with chopsticks.
-
Once mixed, you’ll notice a foamy reaction between the sugar and detergent.
