Instead of using chemical repellents that may be harmful to your health, you can rely on natural ingredients to keep mosquitoes away.

During summer, mosquitoes breed rapidly, especially in humid weather. Many households use electric swatters, sprays, or mosquito coils to eliminate them. However, coils and chemical sprays are often considered unsafe, particularly in homes with young children. That’s why many people are turning to natural mosquito-repellent methods that are safer and healthier.

Below are some effective ways to repel mosquitoes using natural ingredients.

Fumigating your home with dried mugwort leaves

First, prepare a handful of dried mugwort leaves. Roll them into a small bundle.

Light the leaves and place them in a ceramic bowl. Set the bowl in areas where mosquitoes are common (make sure it is placed safely and monitored until the leaves burn out).
The smoke and distinctive scent of mugwort help repel mosquitoes without being toxic to humans.

Cleaning the house with mugwort-infused water

Another method is to use mugwort water to clean your home.

Take a handful of mugwort leaves and steep them in boiling water. Once the active compounds are released, strain out the leaves. Use this water to mop floors or wipe surfaces.
This not only freshens the air with a pleasant herbal scent but also repels mosquitoes very effectively.

Making a mugwort mosquito-repellent spray

Boil mugwort leaves, let the water cool, then pour it into a spray bottle. Spray it on your arms and legs before going outside.
Mosquitoes dislike the smell of mugwort and will stay away from you.

Foot soaking with mugwort leaves

Boil mugwort leaves to make a foot soak. This helps warm the body, promote blood circulation, reduce headaches, and at the same time makes mosquitoes less likely to approach you.

Making a mugwort pillow

Dry mugwort leaves and place them inside a pillow. The natural aroma helps disinfect, reduce bacteria, repel mosquitoes, calm the nervous system, relieve fatigue, and improve sleep quality.
This method is suitable for both adults and children.

Other natural ways to repel mosquitoes

Besides mugwort, you can also try the following natural mosquito repellents:

Using dried coffee grounds
Dry used coffee grounds and place them on aluminum foil or in an empty can, then light them. Put them in corners of the house or under the bed, and keep windows open for ventilation.
The smoke and smell from burning coffee grounds drive mosquitoes away.
Note: Coffee grounds do not produce open flames, but you should still be cautious to prevent fire hazards.

Using medicated oil (menthol oil)
Medicated oil is also effective at repelling mosquitoes. You can apply it directly to the skin—the strong scent keeps mosquitoes away.
You can also open the bottle and place it in a well-ventilated corner of the room, or apply a few drops to a fan blade to help spread the scent throughout the space.

These simple, natural methods can help keep your home mosquito-free while protecting your health.
