Respect Costs Nothing
The Millionaire With a Basket of Flowers
“Ten minutes before the wedding, the bride opened a door she was never supposed to open.”
The wedding hall glowed with golden lights and white roses.
Emma Wilson stood in front of the mirror, wearing the dress she had dreamed of since she was a little girl. After three years together, she was finally going to marry Ryan Carter.
Everything seemed perfect.
Her best friend, Lily, had been by her side through every step of the wedding planning. Emma trusted her more than anyone.
“Your veil is beautiful,” Lily said with a smile.
Emma hugged her. “I couldn’t have done this without you.”
Lily’s smile faltered for just a second, but Emma didn’t notice.
A few minutes later, the wedding planner rushed into the bridal room.
“Emma, have you seen Ryan? The ceremony starts in ten minutes.”
Emma shook her head.
“I’ll find him.”
She walked through the quiet hallway behind the ballroom. As she passed the private lounge, she heard voices inside.
Ryan’s voice.
And Lily’s.
Emma stopped.
At first she smiled, thinking they were discussing a surprise for her.
Then she heard Lily whisper:
“After today, we can’t keep hiding this anymore.”
Emma’s heart skipped a beat.
Ryan sighed.
“I know. But I didn’t want to lose Emma before the wedding.”
The world seemed to go silent.
Emma slowly pushed the door open.
Ryan and Lily were standing far too close together.
Lily’s hand was still on his chest.
All three froze.
Emma stared at them, unable to breathe.
“Tell me I misunderstood.”
Neither of them answered.
That silence hurt more than any confession.
Tears filled Emma’s eyes.
“How long?”
Lily looked down.
Ryan stepped forward.
“Emma, please let me explain.”
“How long?” she repeated, her voice shaking.
Lily whispered:
“Six months.”
Emma felt as if the floor had disappeared beneath her.
Six months.
Six months of dress shopping, cake tasting, writing invitations, and dreaming about a future that had never truly existed.
She looked at Lily.
“You were helping me plan my wedding while you were meeting my fiancé behind my back?”
Lily began to cry.
“I never wanted to hurt you.”
Emma laughed bitterly.
“You already did.”
Ryan reached for her hand.
“I made a mistake.”
Emma pulled away.
“A mistake is forgetting flowers. This was a choice.”
From the ballroom, the wedding music began.
Guests were waiting.
Emma looked at the white dress reflected in the mirror on the wall. A few minutes earlier, it had felt magical.
Now it felt heavy.
She removed the engagement ring and placed it in Ryan’s hand.
“You don’t deserve the woman who trusted you.”
Then she turned to Lily.
“And you don’t deserve the word ‘friend.’”
Lily sobbed silently.
Emma walked toward the ballroom.
The doors opened, and everyone stood up, expecting the bride to walk down the aisle.
Instead, Emma stopped in the center of the room.
The music faded.
She took a deep breath.
“I’m sorry, everyone. This wedding will not continue.”
Whispers spread across the hall.
Ryan appeared behind her, pale and desperate.
“Emma, please—”
She looked at him one last time.
“The hardest part is not losing the wedding.”
Her eyes filled with tears.
“It’s realizing that the two people I trusted most were lying to me at the same time.”
The room fell silent.
Emma lifted the front of her dress and walked back down the aisle alone.
No bouquet.
No music.
No groom.
Only the sound of her heels echoing through the hall.
Outside, the evening rain had begun to fall.
Emma stepped into it, closed her eyes, and finally let the tears come.
But as she looked up at the dark sky, she realized something unexpected.
She had not lost her future.
She had escaped a lie before it became her life.
“Sometimes the strongest bride is the one who chooses to walk away.”
