My wife keeps toilet paper rolls in the fridge

Why Put Toilet Paper in the Fridge?

Toilet paper isn't just for the bathroom anymore. Thanks to its natural ability to absorb moisture and odors, a roll of toilet paper can act as a cheap, chemical-free deodorizer for your fridge.

Refrigerators are often home to strong smells from leftovers, garlic, onions, fish, and other pungent foods. Over time, even sealed containers can’t fully prevent odor build-up. This is where toilet paper comes in.

How It Works

Toilet paper is made from porous, absorbent material that draws in excess humidity and traps odor molecules. When placed in the fridge, it works similarly to baking soda or activated charcoal, helping to:

  • Absorb excess moisture

  • Trap food odors

  • Keep the fridge environment fresher for longer

How to Use It

  1. Take a fresh, unused roll of toilet paper.

  2. Place it on a shelf in your refrigerator (ideally near strong-smelling items).

  3. Leave it there for up to 2–3 weeks, then replace it with a new roll.

For even better results, you can store it in a small open container or bowl to avoid direct contact with any spills.

Bonus Tip: Not Just for Fridges

This trick also works in other enclosed, musty-smelling spaces like:

  • Small closets

  • Gym lockers

  • Bathroom cabinets

  • Storage boxes
