Oh it turns out we misunderstood them

Here are 5 reasons why you should not chase away geckos:

1.   Geckos can eat dangerous insects

Some people believe that all reptiles are dangerous. However, many reptiles are harmless to humans, and some can even be beneficial—like common house geckos. They feed on harmful insects like cockroaches, moths, flies, spiders, termites, and wasps.

2.   If geckos live in your garden, it could be an ecologically clean area

There are many chemicals harmful to geckos, so if these reptiles come to your place, it’s a good sign. It indicates that your garden is environmentally friendly.

Since insects can evolve to resist pesticides, they may never leave your garden or return once the pesticide evaporates. Thus, a more natural way to eliminate pests is to let the geckos do their job.

3.   Geckos won't eat anything in your garden, unlike birds

These agile-tailed creatures won’t eat any berries, fruits, or vegetables in your garden. This is how they differ from birds, which also eat insects but may also feast on berries or edible fruits that you are growing.

Birds may seem sweeter and more harmless, but they can peck at your crops, while lizards, on the other hand, can protect them.

4.   They are not dangerous to humans

Although geckos may seem like they have superpowers because they can crawl on ceilings and make strange noises at night, they are not actually scary.

Geckos living in your home have no venom and pose no threat to humans. They simply feed on the insects around and outside your house.

5.   Geckos may carry salmonella bacteria, but it’s easily avoidable

Geckos can carry salmonella bacteria, like many other reptiles. This isn't through biting but through their feces. So, if you find gecko droppings on something, simply clean it thoroughly—and of course, don't eat it.
