One of the most recognized warning signs is jaundice, a yellowing of the skin or eyes caused by a buildup of bilirubin. Dark urine, pale stools, and itchy skin may accompany jaundice.
Other symptoms can include:
- Unexplained weight loss
- Loss of appetite
- Persistent abdominal pain
- Back pain
- Nausea or vomiting
- Ongoing fatigue
- Digestive difficulties
- Greasy or unusually pale stools
- New-onset diabetes or unexpected blood sugar changes
These symptoms can occur for many reasons unrelated to cancer, but they are among the signs commonly associated with pancreatic disorders.
Research organizations note that abdominal pain spreading toward the back is a symptom that sometimes occurs when pancreatic disease affects surrounding nerves or tissues. Unintentional weight loss and appetite loss are also frequently reported.
The key factor is persistence. A temporary stomach upset is common, but symptoms lasting weeks rather than days deserve medical attention.
