Pinoy classic dish Tortang Talong has been recognized by TasteAtlas as the second-best egg dish in the world

Pinoy classic dish Tortang Talong has been recognized by TasteAtlas as the second-best egg dish in the world.

The aggregated food guide released its list of best-rated egg dishes on Thursday, Feb. 20.

Tortang Talong, which was rated 4.4 stars, is a simple Filipino dish made with roasted eggplants and lightly beaten eggs.

"Whole eggplants are dipped into the egg mixture and are then shortly pan-fried until the entire dish starts to resemble a crispy omelet," TasteAtlas said.

Other ingredients, like ground meat and vegetables, can be added to tortang talong.

"Inexpensive and quickly prepared, tortang talong can be enjoyed at any time of day as a hearty breakfast, lunch, or dinner."

TasteAtlas also recommended places where to eat the best Tortang Talong. These include Sarsa Kitchen + Bar in Makati, La Preciosa Restaurant in Laoag, Ilocos Norte, LZM Restaurant in Tagaytay, Fely J's Restaurant, and 8065 Bagnet Restaurant in Makati, to name a few.

Meanwhile, Ajitsuke Tamago, or Ramen Egg from Japan, emerged as the best egg dish worldwide.

Staka Me Ayga (Chania, Greece), Strapatsada (Greece), and Ispanakh yumurta (Turkiye) clinched the third to fifth spot, respectively.

TasteAtlas has recognized Philippine cuisine several times.

In Dec. 2024, classic restaurant The Aristocrat and Café Adriatico landed on the 73rd spot and 90th in the food guide's list of the world’s top 100 restaurants, respectively.

TasteAtlas is "an encyclopedia of flavors." It features a collection of maps of traditional dishes, local ingredients, and authentic restaurants that have earned recognition locally and worldwide.
