As of the morning of January 8, Rosé and Bruno Mars' music video for APT. has reached over 804 million views on YouTube. This is the first music video by the BLACKPINK main vocalist to achieve this. The hit also broke the record held by Psy's Gangnam Style as the fastest K-pop music video to reach 800 million views on YouTube. APT. reached the milestone in 81 days, while Gangnam Style did it in 131 days in 2012.
MV APT. broke Gangnam Style's record for views.
APT. is on track to become the fastest K-pop MV to reach one billion views on YouTube. Currently, Gangnam Style holds the title for 158 days.
Previously, APT. also reached 800 million streams on Spotify and climbed to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming the first female K-pop artist to do so.
While many fans congratulated the 1997-born singer, others had mixed opinions about this achievement.
Some viewers said that comparing a song in 2024 with a song from 2012 based on views alone is lame because the number of internet users today has increased many times compared to more than 12 years ago.
“Gangnam Style is played on radio all over the world. It was more impressive because at that time there was no TikTok, nor was there any superstar who was the most listened to Kpop artist on Spotify for people to know about Korean music products," an audience member emphasized.

In addition, some people claim that APT.'s global popularity is due to the influence of Bruno Mars, YouTube advertising, and Blink's streaming sites. This person criticizes the music product because Rosé cannot be as famous as the hits Dynamite (BTS), Butter (BTS), Seven (Jung Kook), Cupid (Fifty Fifty), and Gangnam style.
Not stopping there, many people believe that APT. cannot be considered a Kpop song because, apart from the word "apateu", all the lyrics are in English.
Rosé summed up the year with a post on Instagram. Photo: IG.
Not responding to the controversy, Rosé expressed gratitude and reflected on the past year in a lengthy social media post on January 7.
“2024 was the hardest and most rewarding year for me so far. It was such a crazy year. I did everything I ever wanted to do. That was working on a lot of music. Yes, I did a lot,” the beauty shared.
What Rosé is most proud of this year is releasing her first full-length solo album, Rosie. She thanked everyone who has supported her, as well as her music.
“And thank you 2024 for being an unforgettable year. I feel like this year is the beginning of a whole world of joy for me. I’m so glad you all were a part of it. Let’s go to 2025! Bring it on. Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday. Love you all so much.” "Happy New Year", Rosé concluded her "heartfelt letter".
