She cleaned the cut carefully.

Kai watched her.

"You don't have to."

"I know."

He smiled.

Jenny looked up.

"What?"

"Nothing."

She narrowed her eyes.

"You keep doing that."

"Doing what?"

"Making me feel like I'm saying things I didn't mean."

Kai smiled.

"Maybe you are."

Jenny looked away.

She didn't have a comeback.

Later that evening, a woman suddenly ran into the workshop.

"Kai!"

He immediately stood.

"What happened?"

"My husband collapsed."

Kai grabbed his keys.

"Where?"

"Two streets away."

He was already moving.

Jenny followed.

They found the man unconscious beside a delivery van.

Kai immediately called emergency services.

He kept the man's wife calm while waiting for the ambulance, checked the man's breathing, and stayed beside him until the paramedics arrived.

Jenny stood a few feet away.

She watched.

There was no audience.

No one filming.

No one praising him.

Kai wasn't doing it for recognition.

He was simply helping.

When the ambulance finally arrived, the man's wife grabbed Kai's hand.

"Thank you."

Kai shook his head.

"Stay with him."

The woman nodded and followed the paramedics.

Kai turned around.

Jenny was standing there.

He looked surprised.

"You came."

She smiled.

"I was curious."

"About?"

"What kind of trouble you'd find this time."

Kai laughed.

They started walking back toward the workshop.

For a while, Jenny said nothing.

Then she spoke quietly.

"I think I understand now."

Kai looked at her.

"Understand what?"

"Why you always stop."

He smiled.

"Someone has to."

Jenny looked at him.

"You know you're impossible, right?"

"Yeah."

She slipped her hand into his.

Kai looked down.

Then at her.

Jenny immediately looked away.

"Don't make it weird."

"I wasn't."

"Good."

He smiled.

And they kept walking.

Neither of them called it a date.

Neither called it a relationship.

But Jenny had finally learned something important.

Kai wasn't going to stop being the man who helped everyone.

And if she wanted to stay in his life, she couldn't ask him to become someone else.

She would have to learn how to walk beside him.

Even if sometimes...

she still wanted to be the person he stopped for first.
