4. Headache
Headache has been reported by people taking atorvastatin.
Headaches are extremely common in the general population, however, so experiencing one while taking the medication does not necessarily mean atorvastatin caused it.
If headaches are new, severe, persistent, or significantly different from your usual headaches, discuss them with a healthcare professional.
5. Digestive Problems
Some people experience gastrointestinal symptoms such as:
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Indigestion
- Abdominal discomfort
These symptoms are often mild and may improve as the body adjusts to treatment.
If diarrhea or abdominal pain is persistent or severe, however, it should be evaluated rather than automatically attributed to atorvastatin.
6. Nausea
Nausea can occur with atorvastatin, although it is not experienced by everyone.
Taking medication exactly as prescribed and following your clinician's instructions may help.
If nausea becomes severe, interferes with eating or drinking, or continues for an extended period, contact your healthcare provider.
7. Liver Enzyme Changes
Statins can cause increases in certain liver enzymes in some people.
This does not necessarily mean that the liver has been seriously damaged. Mild laboratory abnormalities can occur without symptoms.
Your healthcare professional may consider liver testing based on your medical history and circumstances.
Symptoms such as yellowing of the skin or eyes, unusually dark urine, severe fatigue, or persistent upper abdominal discomfort should be medically evaluated.
