The following article will share some refrigerator tips to help you use it more effectively.
Place a coin in the refrigerator before leaving!
During the summer, many people enjoy traveling for a week or even longer. In such cases, you won’t know if there’s been a power outage at home. If the power goes out and you continue to use food from the fridge upon your return, there’s a risk of food poisoning because frozen meat may have thawed and then refrozen.
There’s a simple way to tell if the meat has spoiled during a power outage—all you need is a coin. First, take a paper cup, fill it with water, and place it in the freezer until the water is frozen solid. Then, place the coin on top of the ice and put the cup back in the freezer. When you return home, check the coin’s position to understand what happened.
If there was a power outage, the ice will have melted, and the coin will sink to the bottom of the cup. However, if the coin remains on top, the meat in the freezer is still safe to use.
But if the coin has sunk to the bottom, all the meat in the freezer is no longer safe to eat and should be discarded. The food has spoiled, and consuming it could lead to serious consequences like food poisoning.
