Every last dollar went toward Anna's second operation.

This time, the surgery worked.

When Anna finally woke up, Sophie was beside her.

Elias stood in the doorway.

Anna looked at him weakly.

"Who are you?"

Elias smiled.

"Nobody important."

Sophie immediately shook her head.

"Yes, you are."

Elias looked at her.

She smiled.

"You saved my mom."

He didn't know what to say.

So he simply nodded.

Then he left.

He thought that was the end of the story.

It wasn't.

Three months later, Elias returned to the hospital to check on Anna and Sophie.

He expected to see Sophie running toward him.

Instead, Anna was waiting outside.

She was holding an old photograph.

"Elias."

He stopped.

She held the photograph toward him.

"I need to show you something."

Elias took it.

His entire body froze.

The photograph showed a young woman with long dark hair and a warm smile.

Lily.

His sister.

His fingers began to shake.

"Where did you get this?"

Anna's eyes filled with tears.

"She saved my life."

Elias couldn't breathe.

Anna explained that twelve years earlier, before Lily died, she had been asked to donate blood for another patient. That patient had been Anna. Lily had donated without ever knowing who would receive it.

Anna had survived.

But she had never forgotten the young woman who had saved her.

She had spent years trying to find her.

She never knew Lily had died.

Until she saw Elias.

Until she saw the photograph.

Elias stared at Lily's face.

For twelve years, he had believed his sister's final days had been nothing but suffering.

He had believed her life ended in a hospital room.
