The Defendant Asked to Delay the Hearing — Because He Hadn't Had Breakfast
The Judge Couldn't Believe the Reason
The courtroom was already tense when Attorney Daniel Carter stood before the judge.
The hearing had been moving normally until the judge began questioning him about his handling of the case.
Daniel tried to explain his position.
But the judge was not satisfied with his answer.
“Counsel, I asked you a specific question.”
Daniel paused.
He lowered his head, folded his hands respectfully, and said:
“I'm sorry, Your Honor.”
For a moment, the courtroom became completely quiet.
But the judge wasn't finished.
He looked directly at Daniel and continued:
“Then explain why you handled it this way.”
Daniel took a breath.
“I understand, Your Honor.”
The judge continued asking questions, carefully going through the details of the case.
Daniel remained standing, listening closely and answering each question as calmly as he could.
There was no shouting.
No argument.
Just an uncomfortable exchange between a judge demanding answers and a lawyer trying to explain himself.
Then the judge asked one final question:
“Can you give me a clear answer this time?”
Daniel nodded.
“Yes, Your Honor.”
The courtroom remained silent as he prepared to respond.
What began as a simple question had turned into one of the most uncomfortable moments of the hearing.
And it reminded everyone watching that inside a courtroom, even a respectful apology doesn't always end the questions.
Sometimes, the hardest part isn't saying you're sorry — it's being ready to answer what comes next.
