This is a story told by the main character Achy Wijaya, living in Merauke, Papua province, Indonesia, and attracted the attention of many netizens. In 2017, a group of people intended to break into Achy's house to steal things. It was in the middle of the night, Achy and his family heard their pet dog barking fiercely but they simply thought that maybe the animal was being bothered by a stray cat or some other animal, so they did so.
The barking lasted for a while and then stopped. Achy and everyone in the house continued to fall asleep. The next morning, the scene outside the house deeply moved them: the little dog was curled up because it had been poisoned, tears streaming down its face as it looked at its owner for the last time.
"We have to be more careful as thieves are becoming more aggressive than ever. A few days ago, in the middle of the night, thieves targeted my family but they couldn't do anything because our pet dog kept barking.
We had no idea what was happening until we stepped out of the house in the morning and saw the dog had been poisoned by thieves. We planned to take the animal to the vet but in Papua, vets only work with animal farms. Plus, it was Sunday so all veterinary centers were closed. We tried to get the poison out of the dog's body by forcing it to drink milk. We also used coconut oil and water but all failed" - excerpt from Achy's social media post.
The dog tried its best to survive but the poison was too strong and it breathed its last. Achy and his family buried the loyal animal behind the house.
