Remove Limescale from an Electric Kettle by Boiling This Liquid – No Scrubbing Needed

To clean limescale buildup in an electric kettle, you can apply these simple and effective tricks. The results will be surprisingly satisfying.

After prolonged use, limescale may accumulate at the bottom of your electric kettle. This can affect the quality of the water each time you boil it. Therefore, it's important to clean the kettle regularly to remove deposits.

Instead of spending time scrubbing, you can clean the limescale effortlessly using common household ingredients.

1.  Use Vinegar or Lemon

Vinegar and lemon both contain natural acids that can dissolve limescale. Simply pour vinegar or add thin slices of lemon into the kettle. Fill the kettle halfway with water and bring it to a boil. Let the water sit for a few minutes before discarding it. Rinse the kettle thoroughly with clean water.

Not only do vinegar and lemon remove limescale, but they also help eliminate any unpleasant odors inside the kettle.

2.  Use Baking Soda

Add a tablespoon of baking soda to the kettle, fill it with water, and boil it for a few minutes.

For better results, you can mix baking soda with a little water or beer, then apply the mixture to the bottom and sides of the kettle. Gently scrub the surfaces with a cloth before rinsing with clean water.

3.  Use Carbonated Soft Drinks

Pour a can of carbonated soft drink into the kettle and let it sit for about an hour. Then, pour it out and wipe away any remaining deposits with a clean cloth before rinsing with water.

For faster and more effective results, you can also boil the soft drink inside the kettle. While boiling, stir the bottom of the kettle with a wooden spoon for a few minutes before rinsing it clean.

4.  Use Activated Charcoal

Activated charcoal is great for removing stubborn limescale. Add a small amount of activated charcoal powder into the kettle, fill it with water, and bring it to a boil. The charcoal will absorb impurities inside the kettle, making it easier to clean.

5.  Use Eggshells

After cooking, save some eggshells, rinse them thoroughly, and crush them into small pieces. Place the crushed eggshells into the kettle, add water until it’s half full, and stir with chopsticks. Boil the water for a few minutes. You can repeat the boiling process a few times for better results. Afterward, discard the eggshells and rinse the kettle thoroughly.

6.  Use Potato Peels

Take clean potato peels (washed to remove any dirt), place them inside the kettle, and fill it with water. Boil the water for about 10 minutes, then discard the potato peels and rinse the kettle with clean water. This method helps loosen and remove limescale deposits effectively.

By using these simple and natural cleaning methods, you can keep your electric kettle clean and free from limescale buildup without the need for harsh chemicals or excessive scrubbing.
