At Raven Military Camp, everyone knew Private Ethan Cole.

Not because he was the strongest.

Not because he was the fastest.

But because he was the skinniest soldier in the unit.

His uniform always looked too large on him.

His arms were thin, his shoulders narrow, and during training he often finished last.

The other soldiers laughed whenever he entered the gym.

One evening, while Ethan was lifting a small weight, a muscular soldier named Ryan smirked and said,

“Look at him. No muscles at all.”

Another soldier added,

“How is he supposed to rescue anyone?”

Laughter spread through the room.

Ryan leaned closer.

“In a real mission, we’d have to rescue you first.”

Ethan lowered the weight and stayed silent.

He never argued.

He never fought back.

The next morning, the unit received an emergency order.

A mountain village had been hit by a violent landslide, and several civilians were trapped near a collapsing tunnel.

The soldiers moved out immediately.

Rain poured down the cliffs as rocks continued falling around them.

The mission was dangerous, but the team pushed forward.

While crossing a narrow passage, a deafening crack echoed through the mountain.

A large boulder crashed down.

Ryan jumped aside, but the rock pinned his leg against the ground.

He screamed in pain.

The other soldiers turned back in shock.

Another section of the cliff began to collapse.

The team leader shouted,

“Move! More rocks are coming!”

Ryan tried to pull his leg free.

He couldn’t.

Panic filled his face.

For the first time, the strongest soldier in the unit looked terrified.

“Don’t leave me!” he cried.

The falling rocks were getting closer.

No one could move the boulder in time.

Then Ethan stepped forward.

The same thin, quiet soldier everyone had mocked.

Ryan stared at him.

“You can’t move it…”

Ethan looked at the trapped leg, then at the collapsing cliff above them.

He took a deep breath.

“I’m not leaving you here.”

Ethan crouched beside the boulder and pushed with both hands.

Nothing happened.

Dust fell from the ceiling.

Another rock crashed nearby.

The other soldiers shouted,

“Ethan, get back!”

But he kept pushing.

His arms trembled violently.

His face turned red.

Rain mixed with sweat and mud.

Ryan could hardly believe what he was seeing.

The weakest soldier was fighting with everything he had.

Ethan gritted his teeth and screamed with effort.

The boulder shifted slightly.

Just enough.

“Pull your leg out!” Ethan shouted.

Ryan dragged himself backward.

The moment his leg came free, another shower of rocks thundered down where he had been trapped.

Ethan collapsed to one knee, exhausted.

Ryan stared at him in silence.

The team quickly pulled both soldiers to safety.

For several seconds, no one spoke.

Only the sound of rain filled the mountain pass.

Later, at the field medical station, Ryan sat beside Ethan.

His voice was quiet.

“Why did you come back for me?”

Ethan looked down at his shaking hands.

“Because you’re my teammate.”

Ryan swallowed hard.

“After everything I said to you?”

Ethan gave a tired smile.

“A soldier doesn’t choose who deserves to be saved.”

The next day, the unit gathered for roll call.

Ryan stepped forward before everyone.

He looked at Ethan, then at the rest of the soldiers.

“Yesterday, the strongest man here was not me.”

The camp fell silent.

Ryan continued,

“It was the man we all laughed at.”

For the first time since arriving at Raven Camp, Ethan did not lower his eyes.
