Typhoon Marce (Yinxing) is expected to have a significant impact on these areas in 24 hours, and residents should take precautions

Marce (international name Yinxing) has intensified into a typhoon, packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph, the weather bureau said in its 11 a.m. bulletin Tuesday.

The typhoon was located 590 km east of Baler, Aurora as of 10 a.m.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is still hoisted over Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, the northern portion of Nueva Vizcaya (Diadi, Bagabag, Ambaguio, Villaverde, Bayombong, Solano, Quezon, Kasibu), the northern portion of Quirino (Diffun, Saguday, Cabarroguis, Aglipay, Maddela) and the northern portion of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan).

Strong winds will continue to prevail in these areas.

Moderate to heavy rains will be experienced over Cagayan, Batanes, Cagayan and Apayao from Tuesday afternoon.

Strong to gale-force gusts due to the northeasterly wind flow also continue to prevail across Ilocos Sur, Aurora, Quezon, and Camarines Norte.

Gale warning remained hoisted over the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon.

Sea travel is risky for all types or tonnage of vessels, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

Meanwhile, Marce could make landfall in the vicinity of Babuyan Islands or over the northern portion of mainland Cagayan on Thursday night or Friday.

"It will reach its peak intensity prior to landfall," PAGASA forecaster Veronica Torres said in a briefing.

Marce is also likely to slow down before making a landfall.

"During this period, heavy rains and strong winds will be felt in the eastern section of Northern Luzon," Torres said.

Torres added that the cyclone's forecast track may still change and bring the landfall point to mainland Cagayan-Isabela area. (PNA)
