Using Just a Piece of String and a Chopstick

A leaky faucet might seem like a small problem, but over time, it can waste gallons of water and silently increase your water bill. That annoying drip…drip…drip not only disturbs your sleep — it drains your wallet.

When I faced this issue recently, I didn’t have the time or money to call a plumber. But with just a piece of string and a single chopstick, I found a quick, temporary fix that stopped the dripping instantly — and saved me from a costly repair.

Here’s how I did it.

The Problem: Constant Dripping

One night, I noticed the kitchen faucet wouldn’t stop dripping. It wasn’t a heavy leak, just a slow, consistent drip every few seconds. But I knew that:

  • It could waste up to 20–30 liters of water per day

  • It might damage the sink surface over time

  • It was slowly driving me crazy

The Simple Hack That Worked

After a bit of searching online and experimenting, I tried this easy method:

You’ll need:

  • One clean string or shoelace

  • One chopstick (or similar small stick)

Steps:

  1. Tie one end of the string firmly around the faucet head, right where the water drips.

  2. Let the other end dangle down to the sink basin.

  3. Use a chopstick to weigh down the end of the string or guide it so the water slides directly into the drain without splashing.
