Ways to help you travel without ever getting motion sickness
Using Ginger to Prevent Motion Sickness
According to traditional medicine, to combat motion sickness, you should consume a piece of fresh ginger about the size of your thumb, peeled, washed, and crushed or chewed, mixed with a glass of warm water, about 30 minutes before departure. Throughout the journey, you should occasionally hold a piece of ginger in your mouth.
Traditional medicine states that ginger has a spicy taste and warming properties, affecting the lung, spleen, and stomach meridians. It helps expel wind, dispel cold, warm the stomach, resolve phlegm, promote fluid movement, and detoxify. In traditional herbal medicine, regardless of whether the patient is hot, deficient, or has excess symptoms, practitioners often use 3-5 slices of raw ginger.
Raw ginger, also known as fresh ginger, helps disperse wind and cold and prevents vomiting. Thus, using ginger to treat motion sickness is both easy and effective without causing side effects.
Preventing Motion Sickness with Citrus Peels
About an hour before getting in the vehicle, take a tangerine, peel it, fold the peel in half, and place it between your nostrils. Squeeze the peel to release its essential oils and inhale the fragrance about 10 times. You can do this anytime while sitting in the vehicle.
Acupressure for Motion Sickness
Pressing the Nei Guan acupoint (located on the wrist joint, above the horizontal line of the wrist, roughly between the middle finger and the wrist's tendons) is a method often used by traditional medicine practitioners.
Acupressure and massage are popular methods for preventing motion sickness. To do this, use your fingers to massage and press the acupoints on your wrist or the back of your hand, known as the Nei Guan and He Gu points, respectively. This technique can help alleviate symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, abdominal pain, and headaches.
To find the Nei Guan point, place your index, middle, and ring fingers on your left wrist, starting from the wrist fold. The Nei Guan point will be located beneath your index finger. Hold and press this point for about 4-5 seconds to see improvements in motion sickness.
The He Gu point is located at the junction between the thumb and index finger, slightly closer to the index finger. When you bring the thumb and index finger together, a groove appears, and the end of that groove is the He Gu point. Once you've located it, apply pressure for 2 seconds, then release, and continue for about 1-3 minutes.
Preventing Motion Sickness by Eating and Smelling Bread
Eating bread stimulates the pancreas to secrete trypsin, which metabolizes with the amino acids in the bread to calm the nerves. Additionally, you can smell the bread crust to avoid inhaling gas or odors from vehicles that may cause nausea.
