When the Past Came Back

The Day She Returned

رواية غرام العيسي الفصل الثاني والثلاثون 32 بقلم اسماء السيد
The church was filled with music, flowers, and hundreds of smiling guests.

Ethan stood at the altar in a black suit, trying to look calm. Beside him was Olivia, the woman he was about to marry.

Everyone believed this was the beginning of a perfect life.

Only Ethan knew how much it had cost him to reach this moment.

Three years earlier, the woman he truly loved—Amelia—had died in a fire at a seaside mansion.

The police found a burned body wearing the necklace Amelia always wore.

Ethan had identified the necklace himself.

He had buried her.

And after that day, he never spoke her name again.

The priest smiled warmly.

“Ethan Carter, do you take Olivia Hayes to be your wife?”

Ethan reached for the ring.

His phone vibrated in his pocket.

He almost ignored it.

But when he glanced at the screen, the blood drained from his face.

From: Amelia

I’m not dead.

The ring slipped from his hand and hit the church floor.

Gasps echoed through the room.

Olivia stared at him.

“Ethan… what’s wrong?”

Another message appeared.

If you still believe me, come to Seaview Mansion before it’s too late.

Ethan looked up, pale and shaking.

Then he turned and ran out of the church.

“Ethan!”

Olivia rushed after him, but he was already driving away.

The wedding collapsed into chaos.

Guests whispered.

Olivia stood frozen, watching the car disappear.

For a brief second, fear—not heartbreak—appeared in her eyes.

Seaview Mansion stood alone on a cliff above the ocean, abandoned for years.

Ethan pushed open the rusted gate and entered the dark house.

“Amelia!” he shouted.

Silence.

Then footsteps.

A woman appeared at the top of the staircase.

Thin. Pale. Trembling.

But unmistakably Amelia.

Ethan stopped breathing.

“Amelia…?”

Tears filled her eyes.

“Ethan…”

He rushed toward her, touching her face as if afraid she would vanish.

“I thought you were dead.”

She began to cry.

“I’m still alive.”

They sat in the dim living room while rain struck the windows.

Amelia told him the truth.

On the night of the fire, she had discovered a secret: she was not the daughter of the family who raised her.

She was the biological daughter of Ethan’s late aunt, which meant she was entitled to part of the Carter family fortune.

Someone wanted her gone.

The fire had been staged.

Another body had been used to fake her death.

After the fire, she was brought to Seaview Mansion and kept there for three years.

Ethan stared at her in disbelief.

“My family did this?”

Amelia lowered her eyes.

“They said if I tried to escape, they would destroy your life too.”

Ethan’s hands shook with anger.

“I searched for you for months.”

“I know,” she whispered. “I heard them talking about it.”

Suddenly, a voice came from the doorway.

“You shouldn’t have come here.”

Olivia stood there.

Behind her was Ethan’s father.

Everything went silent.

Ethan looked from Olivia to his father.

“You knew?”

Olivia’s eyes filled with tears.

“Yes.”

Amelia stepped back in horror.

“You helped them.”

Olivia nodded slowly.

Three years ago, Ethan’s father had promised to save her family from bankruptcy if she kept silent.

She had met Ethan while he was grieving and had slowly become part of his life.

“I loved you,” she said to Ethan. “I thought if enough time passed, you would forget her.”

Ethan looked at her with heartbreak rather than anger.

“So our entire relationship was built on a lie?”

“My love for you was real,” Olivia cried.

Ethan’s father stepped forward.

“Amelia cannot leave this house.”

Ethan moved in front of her.

“She’s leaving with me.”

“You’re choosing her over your family?”

Ethan’s voice was cold.

“You buried the woman I loved while she was still alive.”

For the first time in years, he felt no fear.

Only fury.

Rain poured as Ethan took Amelia’s hand and led her out of the mansion.

Behind them, Olivia broke down in tears.

Ethan looked at Amelia.

“I lost you once.”

Amelia’s voice trembled.

“And now?”

He held her hand tighter.

“Now I’m done living for other people.”

A month later, the scandal exploded across the country.

Ethan’s father was investigated for unlawful confinement and fraud.

Olivia testified and admitted everything.

Before leaving the courthouse, she looked at Ethan one last time.

“I don’t expect forgiveness.”

Ethan remained silent.

She smiled sadly.

“I just hope you know that even people who do terrible things can love someone sincerely.”

That evening, Ethan and Amelia stood on the beach where they had once dreamed about their future.

The storm had passed.

Waves rolled quietly onto the shore.

Amelia rested her head against his shoulder.

“The whole world thought I was dead.”

Ethan looked at her for a long moment.

Then he whispered,

“My heart never believed it.”

And as the sun broke through the clouds, he realized that some people can disappear from the world, be buried by lies, and be lost for years—

yet the heart still waits for them, as if it has always known they would come back.
