Chapter 4: Takeoff Is a Critical Phase of Flight
Takeoff is one of the phases when pilots and cabin crew follow carefully coordinated procedures. Before departure, flight attendants complete safety checks, ensure the cabin is ready, and take their assigned seats when instructed.
Once seated, crew members are expected to secure themselves and remain attentive. They may also carry out silent safety reviews, mentally recalling the location of exits, emergency equipment, and the actions they would take if an abnormal situation occurred.
This preparation matters because an emergency can develop quickly. A securely seated crew member is better positioned to avoid unnecessary injury and respond when it is safe to do so.
Passengers have an important role as well. Following crew instructions, keeping seat belts fastened when required, and keeping aisles clear all contribute to a safer cabin environment.
